Seoul Hotels: Pharos Tourist Hotel, Jamsil

Updated: Jun 20, 2023

This hotel, tucked away in Jamsil, holds a surprising secret.

It’s not much to look at from the outside, in fact, we nearly missed it altogether.

I badly needed a hotel with a full sized bathtub, as my back injury was playing up, and this hotel definitely has those, and more if you want to to pay for something special (more about that later!).

Located a short walk from the Jamsil Stadium subway station, it is very close to Lotte World, Lotte World Mall, and lots of restaurants and cafes. Although many people will prefer to stay in areas north of the river like Myeongdong and Hongdae, this area has a lot to offer too, and feels less touristy.

The first thing that surprised me was the size of the room. We booked a standard room with a bath, and it was very large. This is only a 3 star hotel, so I was impressed with the space.

The bathroom was also very large, with a separate shower stall, toilet and of course the bath!

This bad boy was amazing, but it would have been even better if the spa jets had worked. Having read previous reviews, it seems this is not temporary as many others have said they are not operational.

It took a while to fill but it was bliss. It’s a 2 person bath but very luxurious for one! There was a TV screen next to it but that didn't work either. Maybe they are saving on electricity as their water bill must be huge…

The shower stall

The bed was okay- not the most comfortable I've ever slept in but I’m fussy. My son said he liked it. There was a fridge which was handy, and for a 3 star it was good.

The special feature of this hotel, apart from having multiple room with varying baths, is the top floors. The penthouse is a two storey affair with a spiral staircase and a POOL! Okay its not a big pool, but how amazing!

It has a great view too.

There is a proviso saying that you need to give them 2 hours warning time to fill the pool, which is fair enough, but it would be great for a romantic weekend or just if you have some money to spend and want to relax after a hard day in Seoul.

As Seoul hotels go, this is a good value choice (starting from around 70 USD) with a little touch of luxury if you like a good soak!
