Mid Life Crisis Madness?

Some people get to middle age and buy a fancy car or dye their hair purple. Me, I quit my job and planned a move halfway across the world to a country where I don't speak the language.

Hallyu, or the 'Korean Wave' of Korean culture well and truly washed over me a few years ago. Whilst pottering about on YouTube I happened upon a catchy song with some attractive men doing some amazing choreography. I do love a bit of dance.

Turns out they were the biggest selling music act in the world, and for good reason. So I became a big fan of BTS, and that led to a slippery slope into K Drama, followed by Korean food, and hours researching the country and its culture.

After an incredibly hard few years where I retrained as a teacher, and then lost my Mum to cancer, I treated myself and my son to a trip to Korea in August 2022.

We fell in love with Seoul, with its constant energy and contrast of traditional and modern. The people were lovely and the endless amount of things to see and do made living in a small village in the UK seem very grey and dull.

We returned in October 2022 for 14 days, and this time also went down to Busan. By the end of this trip we had made the decision to live in Korea for at least a year.

I will be studying Korean through a language school based at Konkuk University, and my 12 year old son will be going to an international school.

It's going to be a big culture shock, and a difficult transition. I hope you will come along with me through this blog and my Instagram account where I will regularly be posting videos.
