Sometimes we all need some wobbly pancakes to brighten the day. Luckily, Picniq in Hongdae has you covered.
Located along the Gyeongui Line Forest park, it's a nice stroll from the Hongik University Station.
Picniq is actually the first 2 floors of this building- the rooftop area is owned by a different establishment.
Seoul cafes all seem to have a theme. The outdoor seating area is covered in artificial grass, and there are tables with sunshades and wooden seating areas. The concept of the cafe is of course picnics, so a lot of people choose to sit outside. It does have smaller seating areas inside also.
We visited as it opened on a Sunday morning, and it quickly became quite busy with families. If you don't enjoy barefoot kids running around whilst you are eating, best stick to weekdays...
The start of the show here is the souffle pancakes. They do have a selection of baked goods too, and the standard coffee offerings.
When we ordered the pancakes, they told us that they would be 20 minutes to make, which is fair enough-it's not like you can pre-cook them. We had a table outside and enjoyed our drinks until the pancakes were cooked.
My son ordered the mixed fruit pancakes, and they did not disappoint! Kiwi, orange, grapes, banana, blueberries and strawberries surrounded the wobbly magnificence.
The pancakes themselves were a great example of a souffle pancake and perfectly cooked. I ordered a smaller version without all the fruit, and they were just as good.
The pancakes are not cheap, but they are average for the product in Seoul.
This cafe is a nice treat if you have kids, or if you just feel like stuffing your face with pancakes to make yourself happy.
