There are so many cafes in Seoul that each one is trying to do something different to get the edge. Greem Cafe is firmly on the tourist map by being incredibly instgrammable.
Tucked away in the backstreets of Hongdae, a trendy student neighbourhood where I look ancient, the cafe is up a small set of stairs and easy to miss. Look for the 2D bench outside.
Everything inside the cafe is in black and white and designed to look 2D. Even the plates. The friendly staff are thankfully 3D and welcomed us as we walked in. As this is a VERY popular place make sure you grab a table before ordering at the counter.
There are the usual coffees and teas and an impressive selection of cakes. I had the salted caramel cappuccino, which despite being super sweet was one of the most delicious hot drinks I have had in my life.
My son of ordered a chocolate cheesecake as he is working his way through every chocolate desert in Korea. Perhaps the world. This looked incredible, and tasted the same.
I’m finding that in some cafes the cakes and pastries look great but taste of very little. This was absolutely yummy and I ended up sampling more than intended, much to his annoyance.
The cafe is a bit of a victim of its own fame, and people do wander around trying to get the perfect shot for their social media, so its not really a very chilled out atmosphere, but if you can catch it at the right time it is worth a visit just for the amazing cakes and coffee!
