In International Itaewon, this German cafe restaurant offers a taste of Europe to locals and expats alike.
As you enter your eyes are drawn the the incredible selection of breads and pastries laid out for customers to choose from. As well as eating in, many people came in to load a tray of breads to take away. There are such things as Burebrot, Pretzels, Museli Bread, Sour Rye, Sesame rolls, Rosemay Garlic Bread, Pitta, Gugelhopf, German Butter Cake, Foccacia, and Yoga Bread (nope, no idea either).
There aren't a huge amount of tables, so it can feel a little cramped, with people constantly opening and closing the door in winter, so wear a warm sweater! The lovely waitress helped me order from the screen, and my son picked a pretzel as he was not too hungry.
Breakfast is served from 10am to 1pm, so I chose ‘The Farmer’ which consisted of ‘Farmer’ Toast topped with fried egg, bacon and a side of hash browns. There are also a nice range of paninis and sandwiches on their fresh breads which can be eaten in or takeaway.
The breakfast was pleasant, if a little too much for me, but my son chipped in and declared the hash browns excellent. The pretzel was soft and fresh, and disappeared down his head rather quickly.
The staff seem to speak German, English and Korean, and there were clearly some regular customers there.
Worth a stop if you are in Itaewon and want to sample some German deliciousness.
